Arriving in Ghana

It's been a great time in Ghana so far. We've done so many things and I've learned so much. That's very cliché but I wasn't really sure what to expect when coming here. I knew Ghana was somewhat developed and stable politically but I wasn't sure what that would look like. I also didn't consider how the various regions of the country would differ.
Anyway, we landed in Accra a couple of nights ago. Upon leaving the airport there were tons of people waiting outside with many sitting in rows of chairs as if we were on stage. I had never experienced anything like it but the airport in Ghana is likely the most common way for people to enter the country and thus it is a focal point of the community.
That night we drove to Nana's house, the founder of VAM. Her two story stucco house is very lovely. The rooms have many African paintings of different styles and really portray the culture. The size and layout of the house felt very comfortable and similar to American homes I have been in. Nana has graciously offered to host us for many nights of this trip. It is our home base and after spending only three days there I know it very well. Nana is a wonderful woman. She grew near Kumasi in central Ghana. She worked for the UN for 30 years traveling and living around the world. She currently lives in Ghana for half the year and New York half the year. She is also very passionate about education and has helped educated many Ghanaians through VAM.
Looking forward to this incredible experience - stay tuned for more updates!
